Brzycki One-Rep Max Calculator

Use the Brzycki equation to estimate the heaviest weight you can lift for a single rep based on challenging sets of 2 to 10 reps.

For best accuracy, use a heavy set in the 2 to 10 rep range.

How the Brzycki Formula Works

Formula

1RM = weight / (1.0278 - 0.0278 x reps)

Step-by-step

  1. Choose a lift and record the heaviest weight you can perform for several reps.
  2. Multiply the completed reps by 0.0278 and subtract from 1.0278.
  3. Divide the weight lifted by that value to estimate your one-rep max.

Notes

The Brzycki formula tracks closely with Epley for sets of 2 to 10 reps. Very high rep sets (above 10) add endurance bias and reduce accuracy.
