How the Lombardi Formula Works

Formula

1RM = weight x (reps0.10)

Step-by-step

  1. Record the weight and number of reps completed.
  2. Raise the rep count to the 0.10 power (the tenth root).
  3. Multiply the weight by this factor to estimate your one-rep max.

Notes

Lombardi's lower exponent keeps predictions conservative when reps climb above 10, making it useful for higher rep sets. It may underestimate 1RM for very low rep attempts.
